If you can see a crack or feel sharp pain when chewing, it may be Cracked tooth(crack). Avoid chewing on that tooth and visit a dentist soon. If left untreated, the crack can worsen and may require extraction.

Orthodontic wax(available at pharmacies or from your dentist) to cover the protruding wire as a temporary fix. If the discomfort is severe, you can bend the wire toward a less sharp position or carefully cut it with sterilized nail clippers. Get it adjusted at the dental office as soon as possible.

Leaving the prepared tooth without a temporary crown for too long can cause it to shift.

Odontogenic infectionFacial swelling from a dental (odontogenic) infection can be serious. If the swelling extends to the neck, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the ER immediately. If an oral infection spreads to the neck (Ludwig's angina) it can be life-threatening.
