Composite Resin is a direct filling (same-day), whereas an inlay is custom-made (requires two visits). For larger cavities, an inlay is usually more suitable.
No. Cavities progress even without pain. If found early, a simple Composite Resin filling may be enough; if neglected, you may need Root Canal Treatment or even an extraction. Pain is a sign it has already advanced.
With a Composite Resin filling, you can eat the same day. For inlays or crowns, chew gently on the opposite side while it’s temporarily cemented; after final cementation, you can eat normally.

Bacteria in the mouth break down food (especially sugars) and produce acids, which dissolve the tooth’s enamel and cause cavities. Irregular brushing, frequent snacking, and the amount of oral bacteria all play a role.

AmalgamAmalgam is silver-colored and noticeable, but it is affordable because it is covered by Korean NHIS. Composite Resin is tooth-colored and esthetic with good adhesion, but it can be slightly less durable than amalgam. Today, Composite Resin is mainstream for its esthetics and safety.
For early cavities limited to the enamel, called fluoride application and proper oral care can stop the progression. However, once a cavity has advanced into the dentin, it cannot heal naturally, so early treatment is needed. Regular checkups are the best way to catch it early.
A “secondary (recurrent) cavity” can occur at the treated site. If the filling margins open or home care is insufficient, bacteria can infiltrate. Regular checkups and proper brushing are key to preventing recurrence.
