What to do in the first hour
- Find the fragment if you can. Modern bonding can sometimes reattach the original piece, and the colour match is by definition perfect.
- Rinse with water only. Not alcohol, not hydrogen peroxide, and do not scrub.
- Cold compress on the outside of the lip or cheek, twenty minutes on and twenty off, to limit swelling.
- Avoid chewing on that side entirely — a partially fractured tooth splits further with very little provocation.
- Take a photograph before treatment. This helps if an insurance or unit medical claim follows.
